I rarely get to go out on a boat, but did yesterday. What do you think of the following two shots I took?, be brutally honest. Thanks in advance.

i like them both. i hate situations like this because i end up having to pick from 20-30 of nearly identical shots. the first one would probably be better with the sun just a hair more behind the cloud. the sun's a little overblown in the 2nd one; probably would look cool if filtered by the passing sail, but you never know if that's going to happen...

if they were mine, i'm sure they'd find their way into frames. good job!

Beautiful, the colours are excellent. It's just a shame about the flare, which does distract. I second the above suggestions about the cloud and sail.

I prefer the first one, simply because the second is too blown. The boat is a nice prop, though.

Sometimes it can help to use a smaller aperture, with the sun taking on a smaller star-like effect as it creeps through the aperture blades. The conditions on the right are probably way too harsh for this, though.

First one would look nicer if you managed to brush out some of that long flare on the bottom of the sun.
