I'm hoping someone is cking this thread if I don't get a response I guess I'll start a new one...

Someone gave me a Vivitar TX Lens Mount for Nikon...I assume that it will wk with my camera and what exactly does it do? I think this will take a 300mm lens and pull in closer...I've been afraid to put it on the camera as it's an older Vivitar/Nikon product...do you think it would wk on it?

Focus Points: I can't seems to find where I can manually move my focus point (not even sure the camera can do it). What settings do ya'll use for focus points...I'm used to manual ones (where I can move it all around to focus on the point that I really want to have super clear in the picture...more with my macro wk/some portrait wk)

Vivitar tele-extender shouldn't do any HARM, though whether it allows communication with the camera electronics I could not say. Probably not would be my guess.

Here's a link for the focus point issue:

Wa-Laaaa it works - manual focus point...it moves!!! I was trying to use the manual to figure it out...much better!!! And I'll try the Tele-extender, I just didn't want to use anything that would harm it...thank you Bear...

Janine, I agree with the Bear and would just like to emphasize that you don't have to worry about damaging the camera with lenses or attachments, with one exception which is the same as for your D80: the auto-indexing tab outside the lens mount upper right (approx 1 o'clock position on the D7000) and the issue only exists on old non-AI lenses (or attachments) which do not cleanly engage the tab. It is possible to bend or break the tab with such lenses because the aperture ring is not milled to engage the tab as you mount the lens. You can identify such problematic lenses by their smooth edged aperture ring which rubs against the auto-indexing tab instead of engaging and cleanly moving with the ring as you mount the lens.

In short, any lenses/attachments that worked on your D80 will work on the D7000.

You will notice that on the Vivitar TX mount lenses, that the aperture ring works both directions with the widest aperture in the center of the range of motion for the ring. That was so that the mount could be changed so that one lens would fit several camera brands, some with the aperture that worked one way, and others where it worked the other direction.

The TX mount can be removed from the lens by holding the lens with your left hand, camera end up, and pressing a little chrome "lock" catch, and turning the ring with the lock on it to the left. When putting it back on, turn the aperture ring to line up the fork for the aperture with a little white arrow visible when you look at the back of the lens. Look at the back of the mount, and see that it says "set pin here" which you do and then drop the mount straight in, and give the lock ring a twist to the right to make it lock on.

I have the 35mm f2.8 Vivitar TX mount, and it's fine on the D700. Nothing about the lens, other than the TX mount touches the D7000, and the mount clears the lever. It will work in either manual mode, or aperture mode with metering, but the camera has no way of reading the aperture setting.

Re the focus point. When you have it off center somewhere, you can put it back to center quickly by pressing the "OK/Select" button in the middle of the 4 way.

Well, I tried to put it on the camera...and it will not mount...it's a very old piece.

the box has this label on it

Vivitar
TX
Lens Mount
For Nikon N/AI
0355324

I think this is soooo old I can't use it...

when I see you next Waddy, I'll be sure to bring it...maybe YOU can get it to work...

@ Tom, I've never used this attachment before...was to afraid to try on the D80 so I tucked it away in my camera gear, quickly forgot about it and when I was cleaning things out I found it...
