Computer is too old, no bluetooth. I did just figure it out though. It's very complicated (what else is new). I don't know why microsoft makes things so hard. When I plugged my phone in and hooked up to zune, it sucked all the pictures in my desktop pictures folder into my phone. When I tried to delete them off the phone by computer it was going to delete them off the computer. It's only an 8 gig phone, so I don't want them there. Now I guess I'll have to sit and spend hours deleting them off the phone one by one. Lucky me that most of my pictures are on a separate drive. LOL.

When you don't even have a cell phone it's kind of hard to participate. At least the other challenges you could do something about the restrictions. Here, I can't do anything, it has nothing to do with wanting to use my expensive equipment, it's being excluded entirely.

Can't please everyone, but I really don't understand your objection to the topic. I like the idea of showing what can be done with marginal equipment.

Many topics have some element of exclusion to them. It's not like there aren't an armload of other challenges you can enter this week.

Are you honestly telling me that you don't even know someone who has a camera / smart phone you could borrow for an hour??

If you were local, I'd just loan you one of the three or four I have around here.

I, unfortunately, have a little longer to wait before mine does, but I hear you on this one.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that feels this way!

I understand what you are saying and hope you guys change your mind about letting your memberships expire. A year ago I would have been right there with you. However, I find myself taking more and more pictures with my phone -- some of which I find to be interesting.

Personally, I am looking forward to this one. I love seeing what amazing stuff some folks here can capture regardless of the hardware limitations.

i dont understand why we even need a challenge like this. whats the point? are we trying to continue to try to prove this notion that camera phones are as good as a dslr? or are we admitting they aren't and its to force us to make do with what we have?

in either case its not an exercise i wish to participate in, i know what i enjoy shooting and what i enjoy shooting with, neither of which can accomplished with my cellphone camera.

The point...just like everything with this website...is to learn. Specifically your last sentence strikes me, where you claim that what you like to shoot cannot be done with a camera phone. That makes me wonder if you have ever tried to do so. If not, then this challenge is a great time to try it out, and learn more about the limitations of your camera phone. Then, if you are in a situation where that is all you have (DLSR battery dead, for instance) and a perfect scene presents itself, you can use that knowledge to capture it with experience of how your camera phone works.

"It's the photographer, not the camera". That's the point. At least to me it is.

Believe me I have used my cellphone camera enough to know its limitations, and besides i really dont feel like going through the hassle of trying to get a "legal entry" off of it.

If you HAD a phone, you could turn the volumn up!!!! HA HA HA.... Thinking out of the box (like I know you do) do you have a friend with a phone? Ask if you can borrow it to take a picture of them ... they can email it to you and voila!

Seriously... we have three challenges a week at least, if one is a camera phone challenge is it worth quitting because of that?

Is this another "I don't like the challenge this week, I am not participating no matter how much anyone tries to get me to participate, I will find as many reasons not to participate as needed so I can make myself feel better" threads again? Just asking, so I don't waste my learning time on reading it.

Fair enough.
My original complaint, and it's the first I've ever made about the challenge topic, was that it's restrictive. Both my wife and I don't own a cellphone, so it makes it a little hard to participate. No other challenge since I've been a member here has had a rule or description I couldn't work around.

My brother in-law never wants his photo taken again, at least not by me for the purposes of this site. Maybe I can convince a stranger on the sidewalk on my way home.

Everyone feels this way about one or another challenge, but graciously just skip it and let others enjoy their moment of specialty. If your tolerance is so low that an occasional challenge that doesn't inspire you is enough to want to make you quit, then this site is not for you. I don't mean to pick on you, but this attitude has been stinking up the site lately and it's really depressing. Why do you need to express your scorn at the expense of other people's enjoyment?

fair points, i actually disabled many of the message board forums lately because i found myself complaining too much and not enjoying myself and i actually started to enjoy my time here again, although I haven't participated in many challenges lately, mainly becuase i haven't been inspired by the topics and when i saw this challenge today i felt i needed to make the point yet again as my frustration continues.

I'm sorry i have this attitude, and yes that it what is, as said before i used to love this site and still do parts of it, i just find myself loving it less and less for a variety of reasons, maybe i just need a break from it.

but i will now go back and put them all on disable so i wont see these threads an you guys wont have to hear me complain.

As long as she gives me her real address after the fact, you know, to make sure I get the proper camera settings and whatnot in case I forget.

Well, I was very glad to have my cell phone last weekend at Cape Cod. My card on my dslr got full, I left the others in the car, and a photo just happened right then. Thankfully I captured it with my cell phone. I like this challenge. Not sure I will participate, but I might. I am sorry some folks think they need to leave because of this. I used to get ticked at the Masters Challenges, since I don't win ribbons, but I think once they did have a challenge if you were at the bottom of the heap. I guess you needed some sort of low cumulative to participate. I think a challenge for people who have ended up at the bottom of a challenge at any time might be a good one. I would not quit dp for that one either.

I just got a Nokia Lumia, but, I'm really struggling to figure out how to get the pictures off the camera. It doesn't have a memory card, but it does have a USB cord. But the computer doesn't recognize it as a drive to drag & drop. It has to be connected to Zune to see the images on the computer, but I can't figure out how to move them from Zune to photoshop. I can upload them to windows version of the cloud (skydrive), but then they are no longer full size. Does anyone have any advice?

kelli,

had the same issue... your phone must have some storage type. if you can "mount" the phone, look for a folder with "DCIM" in the title. also, look in your phone setup ops... there may be an option for the phone to ask you how to connect when the USB is attached... something like "charge only" or "USB drive", etc.
