Hi all!! My name is Broder. I live in East London which is situated on the east coast of sunny South Africa.

I love taking photos, and have been doing so for the last 2 or 3 years. I've posted on another site before, but it was all rather boring compared to the colourful bunch of people you are. I like this site because it forces you to use your imagination. I've jumped in head first and posted a pic in one of the current challenges.

Welcome to the community, Broder.
We have a few others from South Africa on here, as well.
Good to see you've already entered a challenge, the more you put into the site and community, the more you'll get out of it. Comment often on others photos, it will help your own photography immensely by making you consider what you think works well and what doesn't. If you have any questions, the forums are a great place for info and you can usually get an answer in short order.
Don't take the voting too harshly, particularly at first, since there is a very distinct aesthetic at work here at DPC, for better or worse. Getting bad scores just means you didn't fit that aesthetic, but not necessarily that your photo is without merit. The side challenges are also a great place for learning and commenting, but they lack voting and are much more relaxed as a result. Oh- and don't despair if your image doesn't get comments in voting, it happens sometimes, and you can always ask afterwards for specific feedback on the image in the forums.

Thanks for that Spiritualspatula. The fact that DPC has a certain aestetic, yet many seemingly post here without trying to conform to it, is what makes the site appealing to me. I'm looking forward to developing my own unique signature here too.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Welcome Broader,

As mentioned above, side challenges are always a fun learning experience. The July Blur one has just started and is shaping up well.

Yup- lots of diversity here, just didn't want you to get discouraged by the votes and think that that was the only aspect of the site worth staying for. It took me a bit, but I found a couple other links that are worth checking out;
What Every DPC Newbie Should Know
and
MK's Unofficial DPC guide

Also, if you didn't know, there is also some good info in the How'd They Do That? and Tutorials sections.
Here are the Side Challenges, as well.

Thanks for the links... will check them out just as soon as I get a chance. The votes are better than I expected, so I'm happy with that already.

Haha.... thanks pamb and Yo_Spiff. I'll be sure to listen for eerie music before I jump into the water.
