My photo didn't do very well in the Night structure challenge, but it made the Times today

Congrats Frank! They say it could use a person in the image? Okay...

I didn't even know about that wheel until a couple of weeks ago when I walked down to the market to eat my lunch in that little public space overlooking the waterfront. I took a bite of my sandwich, looked up, and almost choked when I suddenly felt I had been transported to London. Not as Grande as the London Eye to be sure, but still pretty cool.

Way to go, Frank!!

Brent, same here, I didn't know the wheel was there, until I saw it on the news one night. I thought of the London Eye too, and said to myself, how on earth did I miss that??

Congratulations on the Seattle Times publishing your photo! Very nice shot. As a Seattle Pacific alumni, I think the Wheel is a great addition to Seattle. The waterfront was always an interesting place to go, but the wheel definitely takes it up a notch or two.

Per Wikipedia: 175' high - there is one in Niagra Falls, Ontario that is also 175'. Colossus at Six Flags St. Lois, MO is 180', and one in Mrytle Beach, SC that is 187' high (another around 187' is under construction in Pensacola Beach, FL). The Texas Star, at 212' (64.6 m) is the current tallest in the U.S. (the original Ferris Wheel was taller). So, sounds like one of the six tallest in North America, and the only one built over water. $13/person ticket price (VIP car, with glass floor and leather seating is $25/person). What I was amazed at was how quickly it was built.
World-wide, current world's tallest is in Singapore at 541' (165 m), the London Eye is 443' (135 m), Navy Pier Chicago is 150'. China and Japan are the champions of the big wheels, with 15 of the 18 world's tallest between them - all 100+ m (328+'). China itself has 5 of the top 10.
I predict the Seattle Wheel will appear in many photographs in the future.
