My Kindle got squished in my last camping adventure. I still have my ipad, but I do like having an E-ink option for reading outside. I see they are now selling them cheaper if you agree to have advertising on the screen. Does anybody have this and how obnoxious are the ads? Is it worth the discount or should I just get the ad-free version?

Mine has the ads, they don't bother me at all. They only show up in screen-saver mode.

I agree with Robert, they are no problem whatsoever, and I am actually very anti-advertising.

In fact, MY biggest problem is that Amazon insists on sending me the US ads that often don't apply to us here in Oz.
There has been a time or two where I was interested in buying the "special offer", but get told I can't have it here in Australia.

They know full well the Kindle is here, so why do they still try to tempt me with stuff they then won't let me have?

ditto what Bear and Beetle said. Not in the least bit intrusive or annoying.

Does anybody have the touch version? My old one was the keyboard version and I think I'd prefer a touch. My only issue would be if the required layers for touch interfered with the contrast or viewing of the e-ink.

I use the Touch. Not as responsive as an itouch or ipad but still works just fine and doesn't change readability as far as I can tell.

I have the Kindle Fire and the only adds I get are with apps that I've downloaded.

I've had both. Found the touch SLIGHTLY slower to respond (but I am really being picky here), but no difference in look.

Love'em both, even though I now own a Kobo (thank you again, RayEthier only because I have more freedom about where I can purchase from (e.g. I can't get books from an Aussie library for Kindle, but I can for the Kobo).
