I have been out of the photography loop for a couple of years. I am now starting to get back into taking images and wanted to get back into into HDR. Are there any freeware options? What are the best programs? What is the best paid option? What is a good option that will not cost me an arm and a leg. I use photoshop and corel painter. What are the best programs to use as plug ins?

I use a freeware program called EnfuseGUI, and I think Hugin also does HDR merging and more ...

This thread is full of links to freeware ...

what version of photoshop do you have? not sure at what point they started but Photoshop will do it, no plugin required.

I don't know much these days. And, I can't help with freeware.

But, there is a 15 day free trial for HDR Efex Pro.

All I can say is it is the cornerstone of my landscape photography business. My goal is to generate a landscape photography image which is close to what I saw with my own eyes. I would be lost without the Nik Software products.

I also use Photomatix. And, depending on the situation and light, it can be as good. But, it lacks the U-Point control point technology. Photomatix is not my tool of choice because it does not allow me to generate an image which looks natural. As far as using Photoshop to do this without the plugin program, the learning curve is long and steep in PS. Nothing wrong with that, but ..... life is short.
