I like a good photo essay. This one is great.

Bolivia's Female Wrestlers

In the wrestling rings of Bolivia, skirts fly as cholitas fight back!
The fighting cholitas see themselves as symbols of strength: Their opponents include bigotry and sexism. "My goal," says one fighter, "is to lift up indigenous women, who have been treated with contempt."

enjoyable!

$20 - 30 per match? scary, the thought of risking injury for so little. glad they showed a training session for learning to avoid injury.

now this shows the power of photography, to introduce people to new worlds, perhaps even immerse them.

Roland Barthes wrote convincingly that wrestling is allegory. In other words, wrestlers represent various things, good vs. evil of course, but other things as well. It is primal theater, opera without music.
