Oh God, no. Up here in Ottawa area we're getting ready for Bluesfest. Almost a year ago, Cheap Trick was 4 or 5 songs into their gig when the stage collapsed. Nobody killed, but some injuries. I heard that CT has since sworn to never ever perform again on a stage erected by that company.

Sad that someone died...awful way to go :-(

This kind of disaster should never happen. No wind, no rain....someone did something wrong.

Yeah, exactly. At least during the Bluesfest incident last year, there was a ton of wind and rain...basically a huge thunderstorm was brewing. This sounds like sheer human error.

I don't build stages, but we do work with temporary structures on a regular basis. More than one person had to do one thing wrong.

A simple lose bolt, or pin not installed, would not be enough to bring it down.

I hope that this one finally gets the message through, that the controls on, and the inspections of, these structures needs to be tightened up in a major way. People should not have to die, in order to get other people to improve safety.

...if they had any more controls or inspections in these parts, you would never get anything built.

I haven't heard a name yet but on the news they did say it was the drum tech who died.

ETA: Just googled and sadly it was indeed Scott Johnson :-(
