Used lighting filter on my first flower shot, and would like to know how it can be improved.
Second image I was done for "blue" challenge but didn't enter.
Its missing something and can't see how to change it. Thanks.

How did you light the first one? It's pretty dark. I also don't care for the huge border, as it doesn't really go with the photo. If you want to use a color border, maybe match the flower colors.
Just my 2 cents

Hi Lesya,
The flower shot has a very distracting background for one,
as the flower & background share many of the same colors.
Focus is a bit on the soft side in my opinion.
Borders are a tough one. With or without.
More of a personal preference kind of thing.
At times, I will use a very fine white inside border such as I did here:
and
On the Blue shot, maybe it's the angle. maybe it's too symmetrical?
A little more angle and not having one of the "pegs" dead center may help. Image is a bit on the dark side, but there's a mood there.
Just a couple of personal opinions.

Thank you, guys. Its my new camera and I am just getting use to it. And flowers is pretty new subject for me too, almost as everything else around. :)
Thanks again

the first is really nice but seems to be a bit noisey. Some neat image could really clean that up. The second one seems a bit dark on my monitor.
Good stuff!

I like both effects, but the border is not to my liking, it seems to take your attention from the main subject too much,
the suggestion from Brad seems a better option.

The beauty of a close cropped flower does not need a border.
Subject: Solanum Crispum 'Glasnevin', or the Chilean Potato Tree is not the most photgenic plant to choose, but by cropping tight and dumping the border will improve the photo greatly. This is not a criticism, but a suggection.
Keep at it!!

The color and the size of the framing distracts from the main subject. |
