I have Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3 and was going to upgrade both to the latest versions.

Well lots of you folks have much more knowledge than I and have put both of these to test,so any advice on worthyness of upgrading would be welcome.

It will cost me about $385 to upgrade both.

So its it worth upgrading ?

I don't mind spending the money on this or I could just spend it on beer or something.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have lightroom 4 after upgrading from 3, Cost me £45.
It's not a massive improvement (to me anyway), the interface has changed slightly and the program seems to run better than 3 which had it's moments when the clone tool would freeze. There are new parts to 4 which will appeal to some.
I'm glad I upgraded though, as it wasn't a bank breaker.

This interested me as I tried both LR4 beta and the 30 day trial and it run like an absolute pig on my PC. Interesting to hear it runs slightly better on your rig.

Other things I didnt like. Changing the terminology of some of the tools - wasn't required - a change for changes sake. Converting to the `new` processing model screwed up the look of all my old LR3 presets - nothing worked like it did previously. I'm sticking with LR3 for the time being and hoping when LR5 comes out my registered LR3 entitles me to a cheap upgrade.

Havent tried CS6 yet, I am still more than happy with CS3

4.1 has just been released which supposedly fixes the conflicts with 3.6.

I only downloaded last night so I haven't tested it yet.

I was running Ps CS4 up to the point where the CS6 beta was released. I had run the beta for about a month, and loved it. I immediately upgraded to CS6. It's a very nice upgrade. Another thing to consider on the subject of Ps is that it's no secret Adobe wants to move to a scheme where you either upgrade at every version or you lose the right to upgrade. They tried to put that in place last year and got so much backlash that they had to back-pedal. They will eventually implement the policy. Keep you eyes on this, you don't want to lose the upgrade path.
With regard to Lr, I have been using 4.0 for some time on my desktop system, and have had no real problems. I did upgrade that to 4.1 at the point that 4.1 became an official release. So far, I like the interface tweaks. Lr is a bargain, IMO.
