I have to confess that I had a bit of snobbery towards certain lenses and thought that I would never put such a crappy lens on any camera i own... Im talking about TOKINA, when i was young many years ago and had a FUJICA SLR camera I had a Carl Zeiss fit lens for it and it never left the body I was offered Tokina and TAMRON lenses for it and laughed at the very thought of it.. These days I have a D70 and 2 SIGMA PRO lenses and 2 NIKON ED_X (2.8f only these days...) so I had given way to SIGMA simply because of the reviews I had read about the VFM (value for money) and general good state of pics they produced. but there was NO WAY I would ever consider a TOKINA, who are these people?.. well to cut a long story short and stop being so boring about a lens *GRINS* I have a shoot coming up soon and don't really want to go running around jumping getting grotty with any of my NIKON lenses so I decided to get an EL'CHEAPO lens from the local recycle shop... I found a TOKINA 2.8f 28-80 AT-X pro (looks just like the NIKON version, lol) oh well, its only for this 1 shoot then i can throw it away or give it to my girlfriend (she has a NIKON 601...remember those?). OK, yesterday I start test shooting with this thing showing it NO RESPECT at all..
I STAND CORRECTED... I appologise to this company for years of neglect and abuse of their good name.. I paid $60 for this lens after knocking the guy down from $180 due to there appearing to be a scratch on the lens and then i moaned about it all the way home...
This lens (for a 3rd party lens) is bloody amazing, Im taking it with me to the circus today to shoot a few and Im actually going to enjoy it i think.. Im also taking the NIKON 80-200 f2.8 for the tigers..
HATS OFF TO TOKINA.. I personally think they are better than the SIGMA lenses that I have.
Anyone else use TOKINA and what do you think about these 3rd party companies.. I have been surprised pleasently and will not hesitate to buy TOKINA pro series lenses...
PS- it wasnt a scratch on the lens it turned out to be a hair and my friend removed it in 10 mins, so now its perfect, filter is 77mm.
