Does anyone use an iPad to get images from camera to a relatively safe storage server while traveling? If so what "cloud" do you use and/or recommend?

on a general note i'd be surprised if many people do. unless one has a solid internet connection its not going to be feasible. many cellular data plans cap out at 2gb per month (download, i have no idea what the upload cap is unless that is combined) if you could somehow get a good wifi or hardwire connection, the upload speeds are bound to be slow. it would take forever to upload the contents of a 16gb card to the cloud.

the other issue is clouds storage. I have skydrive and they are one of the best at 25gb before you star having to pay. you are going to pay an arm and a leg for a worthwhile storage system. thats less than two sd cards.

you are probably better off just getting a portable hard drive and storing them there as a backup to multiple cards.

Dropbox and and the ipad camera connection kit are a perfect combo. I used to rely on icloud, with my photostream switched on but found it quite annoying so i had to switch it off.

While the available storage is not that huge, i find 3gig to be more than enough to hold at least those photos worthy of a backup.

Besides, when travelling. and relying on your hotel's internet, its actually quite troublesome to upload that much gigabytes. So i only sync those that are worthy. If i get home from travel and find that one of my sd cards is corrupted or misplaced, at least its comforting to know that some of the good shots havebeen sync'd with dropbox. If all cards are ok then i simply clear my dropbox
