As for Steve, tell him if he wants anything to do with us, he can reactivate his account first. We'll boycott him until then. (Really, we won't, but someone should tell him that.) |

Now this makes it a lot harder for him to reactivate his account, if he wanted to do so :) |

I can't miss him, 'cause I've never met him in person before, just online. I am truly looking forward to meeting Steve, and hopefully others, in New York.
It is my first time in New York. Steve and I have been talking about the possibility of doing a serious workshop like this for a while now. Steve has been successfully running Street Photography Workshops in New York for quite a while now. I don't do street photography. My specialty is abstract impressions, nature and human-made based, made in natural light either outdoors or, sometimes, in studio. The idea we had was to combine both our styles, our approaches, into a new, creative way to look at the city. With him, looking at people and places, with me, looking at the little things, the flowers in the park, the soda can someone dropped in a puddle, the shapes, colours, and flavours of the city that lend themselves so well for creative photography. As I wrote for a book in an introduction to Abstracts, "It could be said that abstract is the most cerebral but also the most intuitive of all the different genres of photography. Abstract combines reason and intuition to come up with work that exhilarates both the photographer and the viewer." That is my direction, and it is what I would like to teach, if you wish, to others. Not just a technique, or a way to process, but a way to think, a way to perceive, a way that can be applied to your own photography. I hope that makes sense :)
There is still room for people to sign up. I have to mention here that I totally hate selling, anything, and my specialty according to my daughter is unselling. For example, I took her along the last time I took a framed/matted print to someone's house to view and possibly purchase. My intro was, "Here it is, if you don't like it, just tell me so, I'll give it to you for free!" (to the VERY LOUD groans of my daughter and the laughter of the customer. So, after they looked at the picture, they asked me, "How much for it?" I mentioned the price, and right away said, "But if it's too much, I can go down." (to many more VERY LOUD groans by my daughter - fortunately these people knew my daughter a bit so they weren't too stressed over my embarrassed face and her groans). Anyway. They ended up buying it, much to my surprise and joy, and to my daughters "Well, what did you expect, Mother!" So ... there is still room to sign up for this. It is a serious workshop, both of them, and it includes drinks and food, and the price is actually very good for all that. You will learn and also enjoy yourself.

That's a funny story. I would love to go to New York for this event. To work with you, Steve, and meet everyone else would be a dream come true. As you know, my family ties me home at the moment. ;-(
The price is right and the company even more so.

I'm so sad I can't make it over for these workshops. I really encourage anybody in the NY area who has not already met Steve (and those of you who have!) to go along next weekend.
Ursula, there's nothing I would like more than to have joined your workshop. I am a great fan of your work, but the timing was too challenging this time around.

So sad you can't do this.
I hope we can meet some day, whether at a workshop or otherwise :)
So, out of curiosity, if you could have been there, what would you have liked to ask or learn, from me? It helps me to grow overall with my own photography to know what others might see of value to them in what I do. I hope that makes sense :)

I had to miss the one a few years ago because my car crapped out in my driveway as I was getting ready to leave. So this time around, I am heading up to Cape Cod for that weekend. It appears Bear will be in NYC with all of you. So sad. I would like to meet him some time.

...simple, just sit on his porch and wait for him to come back. Just meeting him should be reason enough to wait, and he cooks for you, you may never want to leave. :O)

Funny idea. I will be in Provincetown for the Portuguese Festival. I would sit on his porch and wait but I need to get back home Sunday night for work the next day. Well, if this excursion works (I am renting a camper in North Truro) I may do it again. |

Penny and I won't be at the NYC get-together. We're not 100% sure we'll be on-cape next weekend, but we'll know soon.

Well, isn't that Providential. I will definitely take a side trip if you are going to be around. On my way back. I plan on watching the Blessing of The Fleet at 1, hang out for another hour or so, then head home via Rt. 6. (Is there any other on the Cape?) |

Nope, no other way. Not from P'town to Orleans anyway. From Orleans you can take 6A along the bay side or 28 along the Nantucket Sound side, though from 28 you end up jogging back over down around Falmouth and waste a lot of distance...
PM sent.

I'm very sad that I can't meet you and Penny this time around, Robert. However, as I wrote to you, I do hope you can come to my part of the world one of these days, and maybe I can show you around my beautiful mountains and valleys. It's not New York City, but it is very beautiful and energetic too. I even have a couple good kitchen knives, and, if I set my mind to it, I can make some pretty good food too :)
Thank you for considering attending the workshops. I really appreciated it.
