Hi folks...
I'm considering a lens which gives me a longer range. Equivalent to maybe 100-500mm on a 35mm camera or something like that. Which means I need it to be image stabilised as I don't much go for tripods and wouldn't be able to use them in some of the situations I'm considering this for.
I also want the lens to be one designed for use with the smaller digital sensor since the zoom we have at the moment, designed for 35mm, struggles a lot and often has to be used in manual focus only.
It doesn't have to be Nikon branded, Sigma, Tamron or whoever is fine.
Can anyone point me in the right direction, even in terms of websites that would be helpful?
CHEERS!

There really is only one answer to your question. Have a look at the Nikon 80-400 VR lens. It is a terrific product and a superior lens.

Oh oh oh my.
Looking.
Lusting.
Thinking about finances.
WAIL!
Thanks Morgan!
And that lens is designed specifically for Nikon's digital cameras or for use on both?
I know our current telephoto zoom is an older one designed for 35mm and struggles to focus. I was reading reviews of the lens you recommend on photographyreview and noticed only one user had problems with focus. My immediate question was whether he was using it with a digital camera but other reviewers were all using the lens on a 35mm film camera.

Morgans right. For a good F-mount VR lens nothing else compares. |

I would personally go with a 70-200 VR f/2.8 with a teleconverter. I do a lot of shots that don't need more than 200mm and if I want more reach I just throw on a tele. The 70-200 is a helluva lens!

Crabbgod is that a lens made for the digital or designed for film 35mm cameras?
The teleconverter presumably does have an impact on light getting through but do you ever find it much of an issue?
I'll look into that option too, thanks Danny!
