| I never use E-TTL and use the 580EX in manual mode only. I've heard that third party flash guns (single pin no ettl) can damage the camera, can anyone confirm this? If so, I'm thinking of selling the 580EX and going with a strobist-like setup. |

I'm using this exact flash on my T3i, no problems. I believe the issue is with some of the older flashes that use a higher shoe voltage.
Note, you will lose high speed sync and 2nd curtain functions with the flash.

Thanks. I don't think ill ever use ETTL enough to justify it as well as all the other functions on it such as IR master. All my slaves I plan on being third party anyways. Anyone else gone the third party route wih flashes? |

How's the refresh rate on those bad boys?
I mostly worry about the whole high voltage thing with third party flake and how try can damage the camera. Is that an older thing an a non-issue these days? |

i have a 460 and a 460II, on the 460II its pretty good, the 460I its a bit slow when the power is turned way up. somoene else will have to chime in on the high voltage issue. |

| The 560 recycles almost instantly on half power and lower. Couple of seconds at full power. |

that's pretty much my experience with the 460s, however the 460I noticeably slower than the 460II. i ill occasional get a dark frame when firing quickly using the 460II, but not enough to really concern me. |
