Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro for Nikon

So I am going to sell my beautifully pristine Nikkor 17-55 2.8mm. I have only used it about 5x. I really trend towards sports, and the 300 2.8 is not in my budget. I am looking at this....Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AF Lens Kit, for Nikon AF Cameras with Tiffen 77mm Photo Essentials Filter Kit, Lens Cap Leash, Professional Lens Cleaning Kit

Thoughts and feedback really appreciated.

I have looked at this lens a number of times and think it would be a great lens. The only complaints I've heard about it are it heavy(which is a Sigma thing) and that the focus speed is not as fast as some would like. With that being said, I would love this lens if it were in my budget, so I say go ahead and get the thing.

Have you looked at the Nikon 300mm f/4 with a 1.4 TC?

So, I just ordered the 120-400 used sigma at $669.00, I am going to try it, and If I dont like it send it back. By then I will have an offer on the 17-55, and between both maybe ugrade to the 300 f4 Nikon
