One of the most highly recognized photographers of the 20th century, Ansel Adams (1902-1984) was known for his boldly printed, large format black and white images. Few are aware, though, that Adams worked extensively in color as well.

Is it something i have done or is there just a general conspiracy amongst members here that whenever i post anything nobody feels it worthwhile to comment or something? If so please just tell me and i will refrain from posting anything in future.

Thanks for sharing the link, Fred.
Great images and very interesting quotes from Adams himself - help you understand how gifted he really was...

It's because there is a challenge relating and you've just rocked ppl own little preconceived conventions on what amstel Adams is about ergo how they'll vote and submit hence them hoping this post goes away.

Guarantee a colour photo will get hammered in this challenge

:) yeah a color photograph will probably get hammered but if it does it would be unfairly so as the challenge theme doesn't say or even suggest that it has to be a Black & White photo. "Take a photograph in the style of this famous black & white photographer."

Wow, for him saying that he didn't have any color shots "of any consequence" he sure has some stunning color shots, wow.

I agree...amazing that he would say that. Cannot think why he would think so lowly of his color work. ???

The following statement would seem to suggest just the contrary
"In a career of 50-plus years, Adams pursued color photography for over forty of them, and he believed it to be the medium of the future. In addition to using it for commercial jobs, he shot color for magazines like Life, Horizon and Fortune. He also exhibited his color work at the Museum of Modern Art in 1950."

seems like most in that post were color versions of his more familiar B&W photos. while they are better than i've ever done, i think his impact is still greatest in B&W than in color.

and i'd +1 the idea that color will get slammed in this challenge...

p.s. but a little hint of tint might be OK... i been playing with my entry that way

p.p.s. and he did do a lot of non-landscape work, but i suspect that will not do too great, either -- very sad for those of us in blahs-ville.

Thanks for the link Fred :) I have one of the books of his color work that is mentioned in the link. It's been a while since I read it, but as I recall Adams was more disappointed in the color printing that was available years ago than his ability to capture color. He was great with color too!

But agree color will not likely do well in the challenge...
