Hmm, I didn't realize that. My overlay in this entry was cling wrap!

So, DNMC police, if it doesn't look a thing like jmritz's style, does it get marked down? Seems the challenge says this:

Your entry need not look like a jmritz, but it must dance like a jmritz.

WTF does that mean...?

I take it to mean be highly OOTB, but put your own twist to it. Kinda like a singer who tries to remake a classic Elvis song. They can try to imitate the kings style and be one of many, or they can do his song in their own fashion and possibly stand out.

The main thing i love about John's photography is how it gets under my skin and unsettles me. I compare him to film directors such as David Lynch and Harmony Korine in this. There is something inherently unnerving about his images and, like those directors, they often have a touch of dark surreal humour to them. It's what i look for in all art, photography, film and literature really and John does it quite effortlessly which is why he's one of my very favourite photographers on this site. For me, to dance like jmritz is to explore this approach/effect rather than the more superficial parts of his images such as the high noise/contrast/black and white etc. It what i attempt to do with a lot of my photography anyway and jmritz is an inspiratition for that.

I was going to emend that.. What I really think is that we have to be essentially and surprisingly ourself. A good thing, but not a formula.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what everybody comes up with. I've been voting in the Spring challenge and dreaming of something more interesting. Perfect timing for something requiring a little more thought.

No, that can't be it... I don't think a landscape or a nature shot would bode well in this challenge.

Well, it darn well better bode well if I'm going to "... need not look like a jmritz, but it must dance like a jmritz. "

I'm Nobody! Who are you?
Are you ΓΆ€“ Nobody ΓΆ€“ too?
Then there's a pair of us!
Don't tell! they'd advertise ΓΆ€“ you know!

How dreary ΓΆ€“ to be ΓΆ€“ Somebody!
How public ΓΆ€“ like a Frog ΓΆ€“
To tell one's name ΓΆ€“ the livelong June ΓΆ€“
To an admiring Bog!
