There are other cancers besides breast cancer too (that kill more people), but BC is the "sexy" (no pun intended) one that gets all the attention.

Same with Ansel.

I confused Ansel Adams with Andy Warhol - which made for a very eclectic photo, which I obviously didn't enter when I realized my mistake.

But it was a fun challenge while I was misinformed!!!!!

UH? Really? Definitely not an American thing. ETA meaning he is pretty well known outside the US.

No, not just an American thing at all. In the UK go to any library or bookshop that has a relatively decent photography section and he'll be there.

But yes, there are other photographers beside him. I'd like an In The Style Of Stephen Shore challenge myself. Or a Sally Mann-a-like. Or a Roger Ballen.

just because someone finds a photographer interesting doesn't mean we constantly need to hold a challenge in their honor.

No i quite agree but i do really enjoy the 'In The Style of...' type challenges as i feel i get a lot out of them both a participant and a viewer. There is a lot to learn from studying another photographers work and attempting to understand what makes their photographs tick. Far more interesting than 'Yellow VIII' or whatever.

Heh. I'd have to head back to NYC.

Paolo Pellegrin

One of my favorites. He has a very distinct and IMO powerful style. I think I first found him through a post by ubique.

Aha! someone else who like's Roger Ballen :) he he he
You are most probably familiar with Roger's work he did in South Africa (I hail from South Africa myself)
Not sure if you know that he also does a lot of photographic work for, and just completed a video clip for the rather bizarre South African musical group "Die Antwoord.
Here is Roger Ballen's latest video clip which he produced for "Die Antwoord" Die Antwoord means "The Answer"
//www.burnmagazine.org/essays/2012/02/roger-ballen-die-antwoord/
another article about Roger Ballen and the video-clip for "Die Antwoord"
//uk.phaidon.com/agenda/photography/video/2012/february/02/roger-ballen-directs-i-fink-u-freeky/

Another great music clip by "Die Antwoord" (This one was not directed by Roger Ballen )
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=cegdR0GiJl4&feature=relmfu
The little chap who features in it was Leon Botha a progeria sufferer who died last year.

And for those who would like to know more about Roger Ballen and his work here is his web page with his portfolio. Be sure to look at his images from the South African "platteland" (rural backwaters)
