So i bought one of these claimed 45MB/s 16GB cards and shoot some 720p movie clips on it as well as on my Transcend class-10 SDHC card. I copied clips from both cards to my laptop using the built-in card reader slot and both copied at around 16.5MB/s. So is the SanDisk really just 16MB/s or is it a limitation of my built-in reader transfer speed? Any thoughts? |

Most likely a limitation of the card reader speed.

| So is there a card reader that could read them at a faster speed? I thought built-in one should be running at max speed |

All depends on the interface behind the built-in reader, and whether the built-in reader can support the UDMA cards. My bet is that either the reader is a USB 2.0 device, or it does not support UDMA, or both.
In order to achieve the transfer rates the cards are capable of, you need a capable reader attached via a fast interface. A Firewire or USB 3.0 reader (assuming the computer has USB 3.0) is needed. I have a Lexar LRW300U reader attached over USB 3.0 and I get measured transfer rates of about 55MB/s from card to computer, with a Sandisk UDMA CF card rated at 60MB/s.
