| Do you think a 5D MKii, used mainly for shooting video. Would be more prone to sensor failure, due to heat issues etc?? Than one used just for photography. |

No.
The parts that typically wear out on a DLSR are in the shutter mechanism. Unless the video was time-lapse made from thousands and thousands of frames. |

In reference to the sensor stress, overheating from videoing. Isn't video exposure more stressful than time lapse? Time lapse would mainly stress the shutter mechanism. |

IMHO, yes.
I use my D7000 a lot to shoot videos and it has a limitation of 20 minutes. The limitation is mainly because of the overheating of sensor. It doesn't mean that your sensor will have a failure, but shooting long videos put the sensor under stress much more than pictures. |

I THINK some of the limits would be the file size on a fat32 formatted card..... It may well be heat as well. |

I've seen reports of the 5D mkII shutting down due to sensor heat during long video sessions (40 min @ 60fps). There is a thermal monitor system in place. I would bet that the limits on such a protection circuit are pretty conservative so unless the protection circuit was damaged, I doubt you would ever damage the sensor.
I've never heard of a 5D mkII cooking its sensor. Given the way people carry on about product failures, if such failures had occurred at any kind of significant (or even an insignificant) rate, it would be plastered all over the internet. |

Having a hard time getting a refurb to me in Jamaica. Now I have to reconsider the use the one that's already here.
So would any of you DPC peeps be concerned about buying a "used" 5D mkii, used only for video? He got it in march 2011 and use it some wkds. |

I wouldn't worry too much, myself... But that's just a gut feeling. Certainly, the SHUTTER gets a lot less wear and tear shooting video, and that seems to be the most vulnerable part of a dSLR...

Originally on p&s cameras video was restricted to 20/30 mins so it did not attract extra tax/duty. If you could record more than 30 mins it was classified as a video camera, which attracts a higher tax/duty. Don't know if that applies to dslr's as well.
