I'd have no idea how to approach shooting for the challenge, but I'd sure enjoy voting!

I thought that I had retired, but this is irresistible.

John is a DPC treasure worth celebrating, and the tnun quote above is in itself a perfectly lovely tribute to John's influence on all of us. It's not necessary to make a picture that looks like John would have taken it. He's not really a 'style' at all; he's more a model of liberation. The essence of his stuff isn't how it looks, it's how it resonates as a way of imagining things. When I look at John's pictures I am as much struck by what I don't see as what I do. He very often removes everything that isn't the picture, sometimes to the point of discomfort. What's left is what's true and imperishable.

The way to approach this essential challenge is to think of a thing and then distil it until it's nearly gone. So concentrate not on what you can show, but more on what you can't show while still coloring (more or less) between the lines.

This sounds like a fun challenge. tnun and ubique summed it up pretty good. He's one of a kind and a very important part of DPC. After every challenge there are a handful of photographers I go back and see what they shot. He is definitely one of them but of course you can usually spot his work before a challenge ends.

Ah, vintage Ubique! I find it as hard to imagine this place without him as I do without jmritz :-)
