It was suggested in this thread //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=114297&page=4 to start a thread concerning posting of out takes prior to the start of a challenge.

I know there are those who are very much against posting of out takes before the voting is over, there are those who just want it to wait until the voting is started, and then there are those who post out takes any time they can.

I've made my feelings well known in that other thread and I don't want to repeat them a dozen times but I will say this...it has been a big pet peeve of mine since the beginning. I can't see any reason to post your out takes in the forum prior to the start of the challenge, its like discussing the photos in the challenge before the challenge. We aren't to discuss individual photos within the challenge so why should we be discussing what you didn't enter before everyone has a chance to get there entries in.

What's the big deal with waiting and showing some courtesy to other users of the site? I really hope site council can impliment something into the rules regarding the posting of out takes prior to voting. Early posting of out takes really does create issues.

If nothing else couldn't a poll be started to see who was in favor of what regarding the issue.

From my perspective, the more rules the site has, the less attractive the site is (to me). I have no heartburn over people posting outtakes whenever they want. And since they are likely to label their post something like "Outtakes" and the related challenge, then people who don't wish to see them can simply ignore the thread.

It's just not a big deal (again, to me). But if the SC decides to create more and more rules, then the site itself becomes less compelling (again, to ME).

Do we really need another thread discussing this topic? Jeez.

Your point was made in the other thread. As far as I understood, this has been already been proposed to be discussed by the SC.

Just drop it.

I agree with much of what you are saying OSS and I admit to posting 'outtakes' or 'whatifs'. Does this mean that in a free study no pictures should be posted anywhere for a fortnight? or more likely in a blue challenge the colour blue must not be seen in any pictures etc. etc. Nor should they be uploaded to anywhere but your workshop (another thread has proven that even workshop pictures can be viewed)

I'm not having a pop but think maybe people shouldn't post pictures and solicit feedback for a possible challenge entry rather than not allowing posting of pictures that may be possible contenders, and seeing some of the tenuous entries it may be an idea to totally ban all pictures?

twopenneth spent :)

One of the predefined forum topics is "CURRENT CHALLENGE: Discuss the current challenge and how you feel about it or ideas you may haveâ€Â¦"

There are regular threads on this where people seek clarification on the challenge description, and post suggestions using existing photos as examples. I think these can often be a valuable source of inspiration. I really don't see any difference between posting an old entry as an example and posting an unused outtake. If somebody's outtake or old entry looks like the photograph you entered, then that's the price you pay for not being original.
