Hey ya'll! I'm excited to announce that my new Alien Bee came yesterday. I'm really looking forward to using it, learning more about lighting, etc.
Anyway, in case any of you are looking for lights, I just wanted to offer my endorsement for the folks at Alien Bees. They answered all my pre-sale questions in detail and there was great communication after the sale with tracking info and such. Top notch customer service! Other vendors could learn a thing or two from them. Assuming the light performs as well as advertised, they have certainly earned my repeat business!! |

What did you get, just one light or a kit?
Did you ever get a flashmeter?

I got just one to start with - I intend to use it with reflectors and/or my flash guns to experiment and learn. I started to go with the kit but decided to add lights as needed instead of going for the whole shabang at once for a couple of reasons... Like I mentioned, I am still learning and want to get a handle on one light set-ups before I complicate matters. And doing this way allows me to pay for what I need outright instead of going into debt (debt = no sleep for me).
And yes, I decided to go with the Sekonic L-358 as it seemed to offer the most bang for the buck, it'll do what I need and I can add accessories later if I need to. |

I agree that the people at Alien Bees are terrific. I got the digital kit and just had an opportunity to use it. The lights are amazing, they worked like a dream but the photographer messed up so shots didn't come out very good. I could really see that I had a wonderful set of lights.
Congratulations on your new acquisition!

Very important. My shots were way too dark so I'm going to try to find a good, inexpensive flash meter to work with.

Thanks Joann! I just looked at your port and you've got some BEAUTIFUL shots in there!
Check out the Sekonic at B&H - they have it for $249 (which goes down to $219 when you add it to your cart). |

Thank you, and thank you. I'll check out the Sekonic. BTW, none of the photos in my portfolio were made with alien bees...yet. :)
