Just got a cheap set of close up filters. Quantaray brand, came with a +1, +2, & +4 filter. Here's a pic I took with all 3 stacked together. Any tips on using these? Also wondering if it matters which order I stack them.

can you post similar shots with each and none pls? I'm looking at these :-)

Links removed. Better examples below.

Not the greatest examples, need to find a subject that doesn't move to compare. I cropped all these pictures close to the lizard, and resized.

I was just looking into the quantaray close up filters awhile back. How much did you pay for them and would you recommend these filters?

I spent $27 at Wolf Camera. Haven't used them much yet to recomend. So far, I think if I had the $$ a macro lens would be my choice. But since I don't they are good for what they cost.

could you do another test without the cropping? I'd like to see the full frame differences with the filters applied. Take some simple shots of coins or something.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Quantaray +3, I'm very happy with the results, considering it's just a cheap close-up filter.

I might be able to this weekend. In order to do this right, I need a tripod so I can get each shot to be the same. Thinking about getting one Friday.

Here's a few comparisons for those who asked. All taken F2.8 shutter 1/25 about 4 inches from subject. No filter, +1, +2, +4, +6, +7

How about some combinations? I have +1, +2, +4, and with all 3, it's heaps closer.

how about a +7 & +4??

I think he only has +1, +2, and +4, so the photos of +6 and +7 were already stacked.

thanks for posting the comparisons, Matt. FYI - I ordered a set of Kenko extension tubes last week and they are coming in today. While more expensive than the closeup filters, they are cheaper than a macro lens, so I'll be interested in seeing how they stack up (pun intended).

I'll try to post some comparison shots as well.

Cool, I'd like to see how the tubes work. Wish I could get them for my camera.

And yes the +6 & +7 photos were stacked.

I use Quantaray close up filters frequently. They work very well. The main problem I have with them is slight to or fro camera movement after I've locked focus; it doesn't take much to mess up the focus. (A tripod would avoid this, but isn't always feasible.) I suppose tubes or macro lenses would have the same problem; the DOF is just so small with macro photography.

Some examples:

Note that the rose is a miniature variety and is only an inch across.

Got my tubes today. I just posted some samples on a new thread over here

Take a look and let me know what you think.
