Has anyone ever heard of this software?
Apparently, it will bring a fishye image back into perspective. |

Who'd want to? I mean, I fish because I like fish, right? If I wanted beef, I'd ranch...

I actually bought that years ago on some killer deal, but haven't used it for ages because I don't use the fish eye lens all that often, and when I do, I like the way it looks.
However, I really should have another look at it.
Back then, I found that some images didn't work well at all, others looked great. Not exactly sure what the difference was. If I remember correctly, none of them looked 100% "normal", but it often DID make them look very good, much more like just an extreme wide angle vs fish eye.
If you want to, I can try to find the program and apply it to one of YOUR images so you can see the effect. |

ROFL! I do agree, most of the time... I have also found that de-fished images can be a little like that artificial crab meat; not unpleasant, but without a doubt inferior to the real thing.
Nonetheless, there are applications where de-fished images, particularly from "full frame" fisheye lenses like the Canon 15mm fish, are perhaps the only way to achieve the desired result in a single shot. There is no rectilinear lens in existence that even comes near the 180° coverage of a 15mm fisheye(a 14mm rectilinear lens covers only 114°).
One new option for de-fishing is the "Adaptive Wide Angle" filter in Photoshop CS6. I've played with it a bit, and it is truly an amazing thing. There are some YouTube videos out there if you want to see it in action. I've used PTLens in the past with good results, but the CS6 functionality goes beyond what was easily achieved with PTLens.

Thanks for the input. I was just curious. Most of the time with a fisheye lens as Bear says, I'm going for that specific look. However, there are a few times where it would be nice to be able get a super wide view without the distortion.
I did a search on the DPC threads and didn't see any previous conversations about that software so I thougt I would start one. |

Here are some samples I did with their provided images (I don't have a fisheye of my own to shoot with). In these examples the "before" photos aren't of much use as-is and benefit from the correction.
