I'd really likey to do some IR photography with my EOS. Any ideas what filter would work best? Hoya IR72 maybe? Is it possible to compose a shot with the use of LCD screen? |

I haven't done it, but I hear that's a great filter for Infrared. It's not possible to compose with the LCD, sorry :(

You cannon compose with the LCD with ANY DSLR, it's just not possible due to the mirror and all that. As far as th IR, I've heard that Digital Rebels arent IR sensitive.

I've taken a photo of a TV remote (with a button depressed) and it picks up the light source - what this means I'm not sure. |

If you can pick up the light from the remote,. you should be able to take infrared just fine. I'd probably recomment the Hoya R72 for most digital cams. Best bet is to compose the shot how your normally would (on a tripod of course) then drop the shutter speed, screw on the filter, and take the shot.

I've also tested the remote with the 300D. Responds, but it's sensitivity seems low.

Just means you'll have to leave the shutter open longer. |

Note that with a DSLR, IR performance isn't just about the camera body, but also your lens choice. Some lenses have an infrared coating on the optics, for example.
Check out this page for some samples images and more links.
There are also Photoshop actions (like on this page) or plug-ins (like this one) that can give an "IR look" from color photos.
