Just got this email from the Dean of Students at my school...
Originally posted by EMAIL: Effective immediately, the policy regarding eligibility to move off campus has changed. The current statement reads that a student must be 21 years of age or Senior status to be eligible to move off campus. The new policy requires students to live on campus unless at least one of the following criteria is met:
· 23 years of age
· 5th year senior
· Living with parents
· Married
· Have a child living with them
Any student who is not the age of 23 by the start of fall 2012 semester is not eligible to live off campus unless one of the above stated criteria are met. Students who have previously been approved for off campus housing due to reaching the age of 21 as the previous policy stated, are allowed to remain in their off campus housing arrangement. |
Is this even legal? Forcing a student who is over the age of 21 to stay on campus and pay for housing there?
Ps - This is a private Christian school and I know that private institutions have a little less problems with making these things up...

As a private school, they can probably set any criteria for attendance that they want ... if they are a relifious institution they enjoy additional shielding from required compliance with civil law.
It still might not stand up legally, but even if you were to win a lawsuit against the school, I'm sure they could find another way to make your life miserable. You might see if you can get an actual legal opinion from someone at your nearest legal aid society ...
Also check the date and make sure it wasn't dated a couple of weeks ago and sent late, or by someone pretending to be the Dean ... |

Yes. Although I would be approved being that I have already lived off campus, I am unable to find a roommate because of this. Therefore I am unable to get off of campus because of the fact that rent would be too high for me to live by myself.

take your grievance to the board and see if you can get an exemption for any roommate you find. |

Have you considered using Roomster or some other solution? (posters in grocery store?)
BTW, from your repeated posts regarding issues here, I get the feeling that your school pretty much blows chunks. Have you considering going to a school that doesn't screw you over and infringe upon your basic rights on a regular basis? I really don't know how you feel about the whole thing, but there's absolutely no way I'd even consider putting up with the shit you put up with from them.

Transferring from here wouldn't be worth it mainly because most of the classes that I have taken here wouldn't transfer.
I would basically start over my Jr. year if I transferred now.
