I use the manaquin to frame and set lights then set auto focus to centre point then shoot tethered to Lightroom so I can see

Day 1 was remote release but much easier seeing what you are doing, pocket wizards for the flashes

I setup an old light stand with a prop skull to arrange the lights and focus and after that I set something on the floor so I know where to stand and use the 10 second timer on the camera.

ok, im going to start tonight. hopefully the kids cooperate and to be ontime :)

any tips on shooting a self portrait? specifically, how to set up the camera to focus?

Use a remote trigger and auto focus or use a stand in be it a person, a stand anything big enough to focus on

Broke a light bulb last night while shooting... Now I only have one light...

Gunna have to improvise now! Lol. I am going to do a few more tomorrow in the day time. I just need to get some ideas. Natural lighting is what I'm going for tomorrow. :)
