outtake entry I was thinking about drugs and addiction, not in step with the challenge. |

@ BrennanOB
My quibble with your outtake is if I see someone tourniquet their arm, I would most definitely want to see veins bulging out, or even a faint appearance. Since you don't have that in the outtake, I would have scored it lower on that fact alone. In the original entry, you don't see the tourniquet, therefore I'm not expecting veins of any sort.

Main thing, Brennan, that you already know, is that you misinterpreted the topic. Otherwise I think the shot would do well (5.8-ish) in an "Addiction" challenge.

I think the voters misinterpreted the challenge :) |

A buddy who works with junkies told me where to look for images of junkies shooting up, and I saw no bulging veins. If you shoot drugs for any length of time, veins are the first thing to go, then fat (which I seem to have plenty of), then muscle mass. Heroin injections (or really any volume injected into a vein that stretches the vein wall) into the same injection site will collapse the vein. Eventually if you are a long term user you have no usable veins in your arms, and you start shooting anywhere you can find a vein, into the neck, under your tongue, even into your genitals. If you see a user shooting into a bulging vein, you know the person is either a newcomer, or a model faking it. |

Having friends who were junkies, I know what you're talking about. But this is a photography website, and I would like to see that for emphasis. The two most popular spots for long time users, at least with people I know, were the hands and feet.
The tourniquet is suppose to restrict blood flow, creating a pooling of blood in the vein(s), thus increasing their size to the point of being recognizable. Hence I mentioned I would have liked to see this in your outtake photo.

Ah, so this is a photography website, not a reality website. That could explain a lot of the problems I've been having. |

Define reality. No, wait, that might be a slight threadjack. Reality deserves its own thread.
Back on topic. Only one outtake, which is cute, but I like my entry better. Very happy it made my profile page. You can never have too many Wolfhounds on your profile page. IMO ;-)

This was what I was going to go with but I wanted some light in my eyes so I reshot with an added fill light. The outtake is a single light source. |
