Just a reminder to everyone - this challenge had no description and there are many different types of keys. So open your minds to a variety of interpretations. Thanks. |

4.3 after 20 ;) |
that's not going to help change that 5.99 average in to a 6.00 average. |
Who said I want to achieve these dizzying heights? Too much competition strangles creativity ;) |

Is it safe to assume you didn't submit a picture of a house key? I thought we're not supposed to try and affect voting in any manner while it's currently happening, or am I mistaken on that front?

Expected a 5.6 with this one, so on the happy side.
But there's still time. :) |

You are not supposed to talk about specific images while voting is going on, but talk of trends and interpretations in a general way, is a chance for us to explore different ideas and expand our thinking; just keep it general. Singling out a particular image as an example of what you think is right or wrong is a bad idea. |

Experienced a fairly big drop when a member above tried to shift voter bias. I strongly object to comments during the voting phase intended to influence voters. It doesn't have to be a mention of a specific image to cause damage. |

Can you expand on how you feel it shifts voting? How do you feel such comments influence voters? |

If member A scolds voters for not voting high enough on image type X, then image type Y and type Z suffer directly and in a relative sense, while type X benefits. I mean, if this is allowed, some will try to shift voters' bias to their type of image in every challenge. I thought that was why the voting rule exists. |

Maybe we should move this out of the thread, but I'll give my two sentence rebuttal.
MargaretN is obviously displeased because her photograph of a non traditional key (this is assumed based on her original comment) isn't resonating with voters. She makes off hand comment in thread to try and expand the horizons of the voters throwing scores she doesn't like her way. Voter sees reply and potentially changes their vote for the better. Seems fairly obvious over here how this is meant to play out.

Another conspiracy theory for the narrow minded |

Nothing narrow about it. I simply fail to see any other reason for originally bringing up this topic. If there's some other logical reason, enlighten me, but I can't deduce any other reason.

Education in multiple meanings of this challenge topic. Just look it up in a dictionary. There are plenty of these on the Internet. |

So you're looking out for all the entrants who submitted photos of non-traditional keys with nothing to benefit? Highly unlikely.
You're skirting around the question.
What was the point of bringing up your original point if you had nothing to benefit from doing so? Simple question.

Im not sure what rules you are referencing and this may not be the place for this conversation, but you are assuming a few points that I am not sure I am clear on.
That your (or any score) has risen or fallen due to a comment by a poster. I doubt many voters are reading this kerfuffle and I doubt those who do read it are so easily swayed.
We don't know what any other poster submitted, if they are even in the challenge, or why they hold the opinions they do. Assuming you know what a person submitted and therefore the basis for their argument for expanding a challenge's allowable variants, is an assumption, you can not extrapolate from an assumption.

I don't see the harm in highlighting the fact that a key is not just an object that opens doors. There will be voters who take the challenge for just that and may have not considered other types of key.
Yes MargaretN has something to gain by raising the issue but not in an unfair or underhand way, more an enlightening of those who hadn't considered the broader range. |

So you're saying it's for potential personal gain, check.

Yes but it doesn't make it unfair, she hasn't said which image is hers. |

My entry is pretty traditional, and is doing quite well in voting and comments (thank you all) but I was surprised by the narrowness of a one word challenge. I figured there would be some low lying islands, some computer fingerboards, even some dubiously wrapped packages of white powder, and we got none. There are maybe 3 images that stretch the edges of the "safe" images ( I am speaking purely of subject matter, there is plenty of creative thinking in this one in presentation). There are plenty of reasons to encourage others to expand their understanding of a challenge, or any other ways of seeing an image , that do not need to attempt to sway voters to favor your own submission.
Challenge- Keys- no details or refinements given.
What we got-edit deleted a list of what I saw-
What we didn't get- key stone, key note, key west(or any other low lying island), key pad, key board, musical key, map key, basketball key, slang for kilogram, keying a car, getting keyed up and I'm sure many many more.
