I just did this exercise that Thom Hogan suggests on his web site. Not all of you will benefit from it but basically it is grab a prime and set your camera to manual and go out and shoot. I was really surprised by how many times I went from one subject to the next and forgot to check exposure! Focusing is a bear without a split prism, I found it very hard to see the in focus light but it was the only way I could tell if I was focused or not.
Anyway, I found it a very good experience, I put much more thought into composing when I was actively thinking about what I was doing.
This may not be a good drill for everyone but I learned quite a bit about how I have been shooting recently!
What do you think?
Dave

Not sure if it is cool to post the URL but here it is, //www.bythom.com/you.htm
Edited for spelling.
