Hi guys,

Can't find the answer for 2011/2012 for this question and its been ages since I entered an entry.

Is Nik Efex allowed in Advanced editing? Specifially say Darken/Lighten Centre.

Also Silver Efex?

I'm sure it is - haven't changed shapes etc - but thought I'd seek advice.

Thanks in advance,

Lisa

Pretty much any tool you choose can be either legal or illegal in Advanced, depending on how you use it. If you use the tool to darken an area so much that things that were in the shot disappear completely, that's illegal, for instance. Doesn't matter what tool you used to do it.
So, if what you did does not violate any of the "You May Nots" on the Advanced Rules page, you should be good to go.

Fantastic reply and swift! Thank you.

No the image isn't dramatically changed, just a little light in the centre - appreciate it. The rules seem move loose since last time I entered, but still wanted to keep within the lines - GRIN!

Lisa - that's my "go to" editing tool. For specific does and don'ts you probably need to ask a SC member,
but for ordinary editing, the Nik tools are okay. Mostly in Advanced, you can do whatever you want to do
depending on what the voters will accept. As long as you don't change the meaning of your image. Or as
it says in the Advanced Rules:
You May: apply filters, effects, dodge & burn, and other tools to all or part of your entry,
but NO new shapes or features may be created in the process.

ETA: Kirbic said it better.

Thanks Alice - I did read that 'may apply filters' etc, but was wary I was reading what I wanted into that - GRIN!

I do love those filters ...

That's my favorite tool inside of colorefex -- the dark/lighten center. I've used it and had it validated many times. :)

(never on basic, though. :)
