It got very territorial after I snapped this pic:

Are they generally mean, stinging with little to no reason?

If its a Giant Cicada Killer then, yes, they don't like people near their burrows. They build three chambered burrows, put a paralyzed cicada in each chamber and then lay and egg on each cicada. The larva feed on the cicada as they over winter and then emerge in spring. |
