I rely heavily on default and customized keyboard shortcuts in CS5. Without warning they have stopped working and I am forced to use the drop down menus. The keyboard shortcuts are still listed next to the items on the drop down menus...but they just won't work anymore. A few of the default ones like Ctrl+S still work but not all the default ones are working. I have tried reseting the shortcuts but no change.

Any advice?

Mate, if YOU'RE asking, we're all stuffed! Lol!
Back to work for me.... good luck. Let me know what the fix is when you find it.

Do you have access to another keyboard?

I will plug another in later when I get my hands on it. Keyboard is working fine in other programmes though.

k. Not sure if CS5 has the same issue, but CS4 was known for occasionally having your preferences file become corrupt (for whatever reason). You might look up the fixes for that. I don't work with CS5 myself, though, so beyond that, I don't have a ton of suggestions.

Thanks, I will check it out.

Try holding Ctrl+Alt+Shift then clicking on the icon to launch Photoshop. This will give you the option to reset your preferences file, including keyboard shortcuts. Bear in mind, if you have customized keyboard shortcuts, it will reset these to defaults.

You might save the keyboard shortcuts out to a file, reset defaults then try reloading them from the file. If you save corrupted data, however, it won't work. To be safe, you might write them down somewhere before you do anything.

I tried resetting the preferences but to no avail. I still have the shortcuts showing in my workspace, so they weren't deleted. I found another keyboard and all is working fine.

Thanks everyone for helping me out. Hopefully this thread will help others in the future with the same issue.
