So I won a photo contest!
And the prize was a $500 gift card to Best Buy.
You can do your best to guess which image won! =)
It was strange - no formal announcement on the web-site; just an email that looked kinda like SPAM. But it wasn't. I figure maybe they are trying to NOT have people redeem their prize? I dunno â€Â¦
ANYWAY -- I've been perusing the web-site if BestBuy and I have to say that for a store that has a lot of "stuff" - it kinda sucks to me for some reason. I feel that they are NOT the BestBuy when we have places like Amazon around. There's something abou the user experience I dislike as well - Or maybe I still hold a grudge for when they dropped their sales of anything APPLE back in the day saying the market wasn't big enough â€Â¦
OK I babble â€Â¦
But any thoughts on something I might be missing at BestBuy? What would you buy as a photographer? Or as a human?
Just ignore my post if you're not interested in some fun virtual vicarious shopping spree =]

I would buy fire-resistant pants. Congrats on your win! It's a stunning image. |

I'd go buy some Monster HDMI cables, anything advertised with a 480Hz refresh rate. Ask the dude selling you the cables what the refresh rate has to do with the cable and listen for some random bullshit spiel.

make sure to get the replacement warranty on the cables too, incase they break. |

Right. There are exchanges set up online specifically for gift cards. I've never used one and I don't know much more than the fact that they do exist. try cardpool.com or plasticjungle.com

Personally, I'd get a Canon S100 to carry in my pocket. |

if you dont have an external hd, i would highly recommend investing in one... its extremely irritating and upsetting when you loose most of your images... and other things... |

YES -
I think I will at least wait until MArch 7 to see what Apple is up to.
Rumors say Ipad 3 and possible Apple TV upgrade.

I have 2 daisy-chained externals.
I'm still frightened by all the spinngin hard drives. I'd love to get a static drive - or maybe a MacBook Air - but the prices are still so high for non-spinnning hard-drives.

BestBuy will price match
Also I heard a rumor that Photoshop CS6 will hit the market in 2 weeks. Might wait and see if you can get a teacher/student discount

Great photo - looks like you're in a completely different class of photographer than the rest of the entries on the page.
Saw this little baby at Office Depot on sale for $50
Lexar - Echo ZE LEHZE32GASBNA 32 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive
It is $51, but out of stock online at bestbuy.com - but it is:
Model: LEHZE32GASBNA SKU: 4327269
Basically it is a 32G USB drive the size of the smaller USB wireless mouse connector. If you could boot from USB, you could put your system files there, and have your entire spinnin' drive(s) for data... portable, too...
Guess I'm aging myself, but when I started, an 80M hard drive was the size of a washing machine. It just blows my mind that they can cram 32G on something that small...
I'm looking at tablets & drooling, but things are changing so quickly, no sure what I want to do. Samsung Galaxy 10.1 is $499 - your gift card will just about cover that (sans tax, of course).

wait for windows 8, or get an ipad (i cant believe i just said that). android is that bad. half the apps are scaled up from the phone OS, and the other half crash. web browsing is a nightmare and forget participating in a forum the keyboard lag is nuts and no keyboard spellcheck???
they are nice in the store but get it home and use it and you hate it.
in all seriousness i have used android and windows phone 7 and wp7 just destroys it, hopefully windows 8 does the same on the tablets and actually competes with apples user experience. Samsung already said they are releasing win 8 tablets this fall.

Remember BestBuy will pricematch, stores like Frys, Walmart, etc. +10% of the difference. |
