The hubby and I went out this past weekend and bought an iMac. I really wanted the 27" monitor, but we went with the 21" for now. I love it. The display is SO MUCH BETTER than the laptop I was using for the time being, the ease of use is remarkable. SO GLAD we made the switch!

Now, I can actually edit without guessing (although monitor calibration, lighting, etc. varies from user to user).

So ecstatic with this purchase!!!

Well, if you NEED to run some Windows-only program, most tests have shown that it will run as fast or faster in an Intel-Mac as on any comparable Windows machine ...

I can see how people might reject the whole Apple control thing but when it comes to single operating system / hardware comparisons - I find a PC/Windows preference baffling. Having owned about 15 PCs (including water-cooled uber-beasts) and having built 4 or 5 myself, my experience with my Mac Pro is sooooo much better. Even if you want to run legacy PC software, just run Windows under Boot Camp and you are away (normally more quickly too). I can't think of a single downside. Sure, it's harder to upgrade but even that objection falls away when you realise the need to do so is far diminished.

Single downside, the price.

They are more expensive, and I should know, I own two Macbook Pros and an iMac (not to mention a Macbook that has a dead HD).

I think it's worth the money, you do get what you pay for, but they are more expensive,. The only exception I feel is the Mac Pro. I have no idea how they justify the super inflated price of that!

Not necessarily the case, my Rock laptop cost more than MacBook Pro and my Chillblast PC cost about the same as my octocore Mac Pro.

How does the hardware compare? As in spec-by-spec comparison?
