Looking for photo ops in the Baltimore, and safe places to walk around as well.
We're looking perhaps at staying in a B&B near the aquarium. Near the harbor. Is that a safe area to walk around in the early morning or evening to shoot?
Suggestions for shooting? |

The area around the harbor is safe enough. I last spent time there in about 2009, and I was also there in (I think) 2005. The aquarium and the harbor are fun places, lots of photo opportunity. I'm not very experienced with Baltimore outside the harbor area, even though I fly in and out of there on average once a year.

Hi Neil,
I lived in Baltimore from 1980 through 2001. I would recommend and consider safe all the following , and I "think" the city overall is much safer now than then.
The views from Federal Hill, which is just south of the inner harbor Federal Hill Link
The area called Mount Vernon, and while you are there if you can, go and look at the Peabody library Peabody Library. There is also a wonderful staircase Staircase at Peabody
Fort McHenry is interesting and it would be fun to use the water taxi system to get there as well as other waterfront places such as Fells Point (which really comes alive at night). Baltimore water taxi schedule and stops
These are the places that instantly came to mind. I'll post again if others occur to me. You might also want to consider staying at a B&B or small hotel in the Fells Point area. Feel free to PM me with questions. I was last back there in October 2011, but we stayed with friends.
What time of year do you plan to be there, and will you have a car or are you relying on public transportation and taxis?

I was just at the harbor a few weeks ago. Sunset is such a great time of day there with many photo opportunities!! Lots of architecture, water, colors, candid and travel type opportunities. Some great opportunities for cityscapes if you can find the right location. I didn't feel unsafe in the harbor area at all... Plenty of cops around. As far as the surrounding area, I do not know.
