I don't know how many of you this might affect, but I figured I'd post it here and if it helps someone, great.

Anyway, I got a collection notice from an agency claiming that they were after $85 and change for late fees that I'd incurred at Hollywood Video in 2006 or so. I had no idea where this was coming from, since I'd closed my account in person and paid any amount due then. I did some asking around and found out debt collectors have been sending out bogus collection notices despite a settlement made by Hollywood Video and states Attorneys General to not pursue late fees after bankruptcy. Sooo, if you got one of these gems, don't pay it but dispute it in writing and contact your state's AG office and keep an eye on your credit report. Evidently they've been reporting these debts to encourage payment of these "non-debts". Nice, huh?
