We're planning a trip to NYC in April and my wife & daughter will be at a trade show all day, so I'll have the city to myself (or is it myself to the city? Whatever). I'm in to lighthouses and my original plan was to take a quick trip over to Roosevelt Island to see the light there. I was figuring on taking the subway and then a bus (apparently they have an island bus that only costs a quarter? Such a bargain in NYC). So anywho, the more I read, it looks like a place that I may want to spend my day. Is it, or does the website just build it up to seem like it? Or are there certain places there that I should seek out?

Also, rather than the F train, is it worth it to take the tram over the river? Does it provide decent photographic views?

The F train is pretty quick and easy. The tram is ok, but can get crowded.

If your really into lighthouses, and you have the time. Then head out to Mountauk. The east most tip of Long Island.. Mountauk Light House

Montauk is in my future. Someday.

Is there much to do on Roosevelt Island, other than the lighthouse?

A few art installations, lots of old architecture, the lighthouses, lots of people, great views of the city, basically a fun afternoon for a photographer ;)

Just be sure to bring some food with you.
