Just wondering if any one can tell me if the built in flash on the Nikon D700 can fire the Alien Bee 800? I know the Alien Bee comes with a 15' sync chord, but i'm a clumsy s.o.b so if theres a chord for me to trip over, it will happen. lol

Probably. In slave mode, the AB800 just looks for a burst of light to trigger the flash and I'm pretty sure I've done this before with a Canon flash. It's less likely to work in a bright room or outdoors where the flash would be lost amid the ambient light.

I agree with Scalvert that it will most likely work unless you're in a bright setting. Why not get the wireless sync setup? It's not nearly as expensive as Pocket Wizards, and works great... and no cords to trip over :)

make sure you have the flash in manual power mode or the preflash will fire the strobe and you won't get proper sync and firing of the AB.

thanks everyone! Alanfreed, I actually just remembered i had bought a radio flash trigger system about a year ago but never used it. I'm going to see if that will work. Thank you for the suggestion
MattO - Good call I didn't think about that either. |
