Shame you won't be able to see the stars at night while sitting in the hot tub, like we do. Wouldn't it have been cheaper to use one of those 10 ft patio umbrellas? :-)

Bear is quite right. We don't really get any. I have a great picture of a Eugene "snow day" where the schools were closed and there wasn't a flake to be seen. We also don't get much wind. I built the pitch lower (it's a 4 in 12) so it comes under the 10 foot height max. You don't need a permit that way.

Just an update on the gazebo. I haven't been keeping track, but I've probably put about 20 hours in the last two weekends and it's nearing completion. I need 6 more corner braces and then to line the inner ceiling with tongue-in-groove cedar. I'm wavering on whether to cover the posts with cedar or not, so we'll see there. Then it's onto the deck.

Thought people might like to see pictures.

Looking good. (The ladders are a bit of a distraction) :)

Jason, that is what you get for posting construction shots to a photography site, LOL!

I think the ladders add interest and context to an otherwise unfinished looking photo. I think you need more ladders.

You are right you know Art...I just noticed that none of the ladder have any association with the item being erected... Is this like the bridge to nowhere thing that the mericans are so fond of.

Sheesh you folks think funny.

It's definitely DNMC... I thought this was an architecture challenge. Clearly you have shown too much landscape!

It's also not OSHA-compliant, there's no warning tape around those gaps in the planking; this is an industrial accident waiting to happen...

Not enough color, two ladders is just not enough color. Better lighting would help too, maybe some reflectors off frame to the right. Lower angle would improve composition, making the deck boards into a leading line, and backlight the rafters with one flash to highlight the interior workings of the roof. A few bathing beauties sitting on the edge of a hot tub would be a nice touch as well.
Are we helping?

Those ladders provide interesting diagonal elements to the composition. A few more would not be amiss. However, the whole shot suffers from not being in HDR.

I am rapidly scribbling notes....

More ladders (must tell the wife)...needs HDR...dont invite OSHA to go tubbing...

probably need some sort of graduated filter set too, the sky looks blown out.

Crying out for HDR - did you even use a tripod? Maybe your new found skills could help in constructing something stable...

Man, heavy snow today. I can actually see white in the grass and bark. Could be the big test for the gazebo!

Some HDR, a dash of fractalius, a few elements of horror and drama and VWALLA! You could have yourself a work of Art.

Heavy snow here, too. :(

One word of advise.(or more). Make sure there is plenty of easy access to work on the dang thing cause you'll be doing plenty of that. Also, leave the top off. One of the best things about hot tubs is looking at the stars. Get you one of those things that allow you to easily remove and replace the cover with just one person. Mine attaches to the HT frame work and is quick and easy. I like the open tubs but with a curtin in case the wind is too strong. Don't worry about cold air or even snow...not a problem at all...makes it even better. Go easy on the chemicals. You can chase the ph forever. The less chemicals the better. Tell your friends that,if suited, and they pee, their suit will turn a bright color. Enjoy
