That's excellent feedback for you. Means that for at least one viewer you didn't get your message across. Also means someone was kind enough to take the time to tell you what they saw. Doesn't mean either of you are wrong.
I'm down to a 4.1 with a good chance of going sub-4. I blame jagar. |
I also blame jagar, what a numbskull. |
Yep. I blame jagar as well. |

Thats me finished voting 100% on this challenge... so many shoehorns, totally agree with what Giles_uk said about the titles of some being the only connection to theme.. some of the photos have nothing at all to do with music, not even a hint..
I know the site says to vote photos on quality etc even if you feel it doesn't meet the challenge but come on, whats the point in a theme if its not a big factor in how you score the image.. i sometimes wonder why we even have themes on the site at all when so many people just ignore it completely.

I am not entered in this challenge so my following remarks have nothing to do with sour grapes - I don't think a score thread is the place to make remarks about whether photos meets the challenge or not.
That's not to say people shouldn't share their thoughts but AFTER the voting is over is the time for that in my opinion.
I for one don't profess to being able to read the mind of the photographer and assign meaning to their interpretation/vision of what the challenge is. I had thought of shooting a dripping tap - catching the water drop as is fell - to me that would be a sound and sounds make up music .. or a huge ocean wave crashing on shore .. a child stomping their feet .. all in my opinion musical. Of course, my taste in music is quite eclectic :)
edit to add .. I love a wonderful thunder storm with pounding rains .. it's the music of nature - wild and free. I haven't voted yet and I am looking forward to it.

Challenge description: "Creatively capture an image that conveys the idea of "music" to your viewer."
I'm pretty much a hard liner most of the time when it comes to whether an entry fits the challenge or not (IMO) but even I can see that the way this challenge is written up leaves a ton of room for leeway. I mean, come on, "conveys the idea of music"?!
I haven't voted or even looked at the entries for this challenge yet, but I anticipate seeing a wide spectrum of interpretations put out there. |

We shall agree to disagree.. i notice when you quoted the challenge description you underlined "Creatively capture" and purposely left out underlining the rest of that sentence "an image".. hence misquoting the line and changing its context to suit your argument, but hey don't all debaters do this from time to time lol... the fact is it says to capture an image that conveys the idea of music.. not capture an image of anything and put the suggestion of a connection in the viewers head with a title.. if the title is required to make the connection for the viewer then clearly the image does not, and as such doesn't meet the challange surely, for me at least.
This doesn't mean you have to take a photo of a musical thing at all... just that if you choose to take a photo of something that isn't musical then it should be in a way that still screams out a music theme to the viewer, without the need for the title to do that job for them. I won't obviously mention which image, but there is one in the challenge i absilutely love because it does exactly that.
All just my take on it and more than happy for people to have differing opinions.. its what makes the world go around lol, would be boring if we all agreed eh... but would make voting far easier lol

The theme said to creatively capture music. I applaud everyone who entered a musical photo with no REPRESENTATIONAL reference. Believe it or not there's music everywhere... close your eyes and just listen. Now open them and go take a photo of what you heard.

Sigh...first I did not "misquote" anything, it's all there. I chose to highlight the action words. Of course everyone is supposed to capture "an image" - what are you going to enter, a drawing? :-P
Thanks for the laugh. |

Very true, we make music to express something else entirely, otherwise, it would be just sound. |

I'm assuming that's a rhetorical question but if you're serious, save it to your workshop and when the challenge is over we can discuss it. |
