I enjoyed these 2 pieces because they ring true in so many ways...The replies/photo crit says a lot even about my own work, comments and critiques! If you want me to increase my comments I will have to "increase" the brevity there-of.
Part 1 (blogspot) and Part 2 (typad)
I once critiqued an image and went to careful lengths as to why I thought it was not up to the challenge despite the effort and quality put into the image. The tog did not mark the comment useful, even though it was the most comprehensive comment (and made during voting when I am egg-on-face-wise the most vulnerable). It was however marked useful many challenges later. (The conspiracy theorist in me says the tog came round after cooling off appreciating my honesty...) Despite this I gave the image an above average score, not only because I don't believe it deserved a 5 or less, but the site rules specifically prevent me from voting low even if I feel the image DNMC. (How do you police that btw?) Anyway post roll-over this particular image received the most below average (5.5) 5 or less votes than any other up to that point. I felt vindicated, in a small way even though I (and the lowballers) were in the minority.
"Famous photographer immediately means fantastic image and thus blind cult worship" right?
Just read some of the comments given to HC-B and other famous togs for a good laugh. Have a fabulous Sunday :) |

HarverGYour comprehensive comments and critiques are very helpful and constructive. I greatly appreciate for your effort and your time to share your opinion. DPC is a bit unique, marking for helpful or otherwise. But there are few doesn't tick the helpful box. Maybe they don't have time. Keep it up, mate. Have a good day! |
