Sucks. Would be nice if people would just do the right thing. My teenage daughter slammed the car door into a neighboring car one time and left a scratch (She was mad). I left a note. Turned out to be someone we knew and they weren't concerned.

today was the day i started being that inconsiderate parker. for two years i always made sure that i left room for another car to fit on the curb in front or behind me.
i think someone hit my car trying to park, so I decided no more.
I am so sick of these ignorant people in my building, so screw them. i took up two spots, the whole curb so no one else could fit, right out in front, rockstar parking.
i get in way before anyone else so screw them, they could use the exercise anyhow.

Local establishments CCTV? Ask quick as they might wipe CCTV every 24hrs or so, Over here it's a criminal offence to do leave the scene of an accident |

It's a crime here too, but exterior security cameras aren't terribly common.
My neighbor has one one our alley and was able to get a nice picture of the guy who stole his lawnmower. The police took a copy of the video, but unless the guy flashes his ID to the camera or you catch a license plate, the chances of catching him are slim to none. I had my garage broken into three times in one year, losing 2 lawnmowers and about $3000 in bicycles & power tools along with $500 in damage to the door. I (half jokingly) told the police that I was considering sleeping in the garage with my shotgun at the ready. He just said, with total seriousness, to just make sure they were inside the building before I started shooting.
I installed an alarm that calls the police and have a nice sign and some window stickers up. No problems since |

One day last fall I went out to the parking lot to find a couple of policemen milling around with clipboards. One of them looked at me and asked, "Is this your car?" Only then did I look past them to see my car had been bashed into. Apparently someone had had a few too many martinis at lunch. Fortunately, for me someone had heard the crash and called the cops, and they had caught the driver. The driver was insured through the same company I used. It was a bit of a hassle, but really I can't complain too much. Sure, my car was hit by a drunk driver, but the good news is I was not in it at the time.
Sorry, Mike. Hopefully, they'll catch the bastard. |

Yeah I had a guy run into my jeep....he came in at a slight angle...broke my driver mirror and scraped my tire and ran into the back of my 1/4" steel brush-guard. The only damage to me was the broken mirror and a slight dent on the brush-guard...Based on the parts he left in my yard..I got headlight/blinker, all the trim on his passenger side, hubcap, front fender, and possibly door...It was also a grey volvo.

Had my truck broken into one day at the YMCA across the street during daylight hours. They smashed in the window and of all things to steal, only took a ziplock bag of screws. Only thing I can figure is in a rush, they bag of shiny screws may have looked like coins. Not much of a haul for them, but it cost me to get the window replaced.

Sorry to hear, Mike. Once I complete my "Instant Karma Dispenser" invention, this type of thing will never again go unpunished. Currently working out the collateral damage bugs that tend to cause what I call circular karma. |

We had our Tahoe broken into one time. They smashed the window and took the GPS (which is probably what they were after...hide your GPSs people!) and my glasses (probably thought they were sunglasses). They missed the $2,500 or so in lenses and other camera equipment in the back seat. Whew! |

FYI - I know someone who actively damages cars that are parked like this... I've even seen him push the car to where it should be so he can park.... I too am tempted to join him, I am sorry for the damage done to your car, but... Your response is more wrong than the initial incident, and will likely cause you to be driving a beat up piece of shit in a couple of years... Just a thought.... You might try just doing what you know to be polite and right - why let one small incident change you from a good and benevolent person into a complete jackass? It just doesn't make sense, since you just lose twice as badly by becoming a lesser person for it... |

This reminds me of a time, long ago, when in a grocery/mall parking lot with a friend, we saw a fellow pull out of a parking spot and using the touch & crash system, smashed into the rearend of the car a lane away as part of his exit strategy. He was just about to pull out and away, when he saw us looking at him. I asked my friend if she had anything to do for a while. She agreed to stick around. The fellow circled the lot, but didn't leave & eventually came back. About 20 minutes later the woman whose car it was came out. We left when we saw her id the culprit and start giving the guy holey hell. |

Nowadays you can just hold up your camera and give the guy a thumbs-up sign ... he won't be going anywhere. |

Heh! I had someone break into my car for a gallon of milk and an open carton of cigs. The funny thing is, they grabbed the carton open side down, so all the packs were on the ground right outside the car. I figured they needed the milk more than me. |

It's lame that the person left without at least leaving a note with his contact info, but it's also lame that you're being penalized by your insurance company for an accident you had absolutely no part in causing. |

Reportedly, Mark Twain put a sign and a pair of sleepers in front of the back door, after thieves broke into his house.
The sign said "To all thieves. Keys are under the mat. Please be quiet and do wear these when coming in, so at least you won't wake me up" or something to that effect.
Apparently, nobody ever broke into the house again. As a thief I would actually be quite wary of getting into a house with that kind of sign on the door :D
Sorry to hear that, Mike. It happened to me quite a few times too, and after a while I just stopped having the dents fixed, but it really was an old trap of a car anyway.. |

yeah i though about that, but honestly since i started working in the city you come to realize that people are just plain dicks. its not just one incident, its been a culmination for the past two years and i've had it. sometimes i think i come on this board just to argue a counterpoint to vent out a little (so sorry about that).
i have been fighting trying to be nice, but its exhausting and i cant do it anymore.
god forbid the Giants lose on Sunday i might burn the building down (joke by the way).
thanks for the ears. |

i dont even think im going to fix it, at least for a while. maybe someone else will hit me and i'll catch them and get it fixed them.
it doesn't look that bad, its only the front quarter panel that has a small dent over the wheel and its my commuter car. its the paint work that is going to cost the most money, since they have to repaint almost the whole front end. |

Mike I feel your pain and anger. This has happened 3 times to cars belonging to my husband and myself - substantial damage, large repair bills and no sign of the culprit. The most recent time a local business owner saw the incident and gave us the rego number and a description - black Suzuki frequently parked in the area (but never seen again). We reported to police but apparently there was a mistake in the number and it was too much trouble to match it to similar ones.
