Before the voting commences, I have a request of my peers. There are Voting Rules.

One part states, "You may not: give an entry a lower score because you believe it violates the Challenge Rules."

The January Free Study will operate under the "Advanced Editing" ruleset.

By all means, cast your votes, using your unique voting scale and your set of criteria. That is fine. What is unfair is to vote low on an image because you think it MAY violate the above mentioned ruleset. Vote as if it complies with the rules. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt. And, of course, It is perfectly okay to report any suspected rules violation, as long as you vote without bias because of your suspicion.

Longer term members know this. I apologize to them for the tedious message. But, we have many newer members who may have not yet discovered this DPC nuance.

I think that's a very good reminder, Richard.

That's the way I always vote...If I think someone broke the rules..I might complain about it.....but my vote is as un-biased as it can be.

Was that a DPC nuance, or a DPC nuisance?

I will vote with my usual biases and prejudices.

okay. I respect you guys. Are you saying you will vote low (with bias) on an image because you suspect it may be in violation of the ruleset under which the challenge operates?

Not at all. I was mostly being a smartbutt. There are some subjects that do have stronger personal appeal to me that often get higher votes. Others that may only get a 6 for an outstanding shot, because I find the subject matter boring. Not unlike anyone else's voting, really.

I click on the first image and vote it a 1, then vote the next image a 2, then a 3......etc. when I reach 10 I start back over with 1. I like to gamble with your scores.

Seems fair to me.

If the shot is good I give it a good score...(I do have a rating scheme) If the pic is bad I vote accordingly...That is on every challenge

About 2/3 done voting. Definitely some nice images do far.

I do have to say I am no longer going to try and guess what my images will score. I really like my free study entry. I even had a 12x18 framed print made 2 days after I shot it, and it's hanging on my wall. But it's only scoring in the mid to high 5s!! :( I've had a couple other entries where I had no expectations end up scoring in the mid 6s. So, I guess the lesson is, have no expectations and don't get your hopes up for a 7!

The code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules.
