Could not create a JPEG that met your limit of 300K bytes. (1)
D:\LR3 DNG To Do\2011\2011-06-18\_MG_2337.dng

The message from LR4, the image my 2011 best. Saved it as a 800long but absolutely gives me a finger of choice for the 300 max. What shall I do?

I have this export plugin for Lightroom, it works for the new beta, I can highly recommend it.

Bump.

Why this message and what can I do about it. Tried what jager advised, no luck. Thanks jager in any event, I will benefit from this download.

Where the heck is Bearmusic when I need him? Suppose he will have some excuse for not coming to my rescue!

Can you not just alter the settings in export box/es?
I perhaps am misunderstanding the problem, someone else will be along soon.

Oh no! I don't use LR so I have no idea. Do you have any other software you can try?

I have almost no Lightroom experience, Doc... Sorry.

Worst case, export the file without limiting the file size, then open the file in another editor, Ps, Ps Elements, whatever, and re-save it, using the quality setting to control file size.
Is it an image that has very high detail levels across much of the image? In extreme cases, 300k can be a challenge, but not an insurmountable one.
Couple questions:
- If you try giving it no limit, what size is the resulting file?
- If you then try limiting the size to just under the size you got per the above question, does it still balk?

I would export the image as a TIFF file (no chance of compression loss), then open in any other editor and SaveAs to a JPEG file. IrfanView is a free (Windows) utility which does this quite well.

I've sometimes had to save a detailed image at a JPEG quality setting as low as 5/10 to get it under the DPC limit, but most often I can save between levels 7-9.

Doc i have my settings set as "File settings" (Format JPEG) Colour space ProphotoRGB) Limit file size to 300k "Don't forget to put the tick in"

"Image settings" Resize fit - Long edge 800 Pixels. Resolution 300 pixels per inch.

Hope this helps.

right click the pic, then under the export settings tone down the quality to whatever you need....

If you have downloaded Mogrify Doc, make sure the lightroom image sizing box is not ticked, now in the Mogrify resizing options, tick the re-size to fit box and the keep aspect ratio box and also the fit any borders into this target size box, in the pull down menu select fit inside, now just type 800 in both the width and height boxes and select pixels. Now in the compress to given file size menu, tick the compress to fit box and type 300 in the other, that's how i have mine set up and it works fine.

Shouldn't this be JPG rather than DNG?

Thanks to all of you. Together we could solve any problem in our world!

Save it without the sidecar file that has EXIF, color profiles ect in it. That will allow you to maximize the allowed 300mb size with all "photo only " data.
Some editing programs allow you to set the filesize/quality, but that number does not include the sidecar file when you pick the size, so it ends up larger than the limit you set.
I just use iPhoto for editing, so then have to import the images into Graphic Converter editing program to resize for DPC challenges in order to save them at the proper px size and filesize. (Thanks Kirbic for walking me through that the first time I tried it.)
