I haven't had much success at finding a good lens that covers wide and telephoto in the same lens for my 5DMKII. Does anyone have any suggestions and/or experience with using different brands and which do you like? Price is not a factor. I'm looking for a quality lens, not too heavy, and covers the wide end and has some reach as well. |

That's the 24-105mm f/4L, basically. Which you already have one of.

Thanks Robert- I was hoping for a little more on each end I guess, but maybe I am begging? I know I can't expect super good quality if the design get's pushed too far. And the 24/105 is a great lens to be sure. |

Tamron 28-300 VC has acceptable reviews on Full Frame. It isn't L glass, but it is light and compact and has a lot of reach...

Wait, I forgot Canon's new 28-300L:

If you don't mind a little heft in your walkaround, this will do the job, but a a cost of $2,000...

A certain controversial photographer raves about the EF 28-135 IS on the 5D, not sure if it would stand up to the resolution capabilities of the Mk II though... (Frankly, it looks like my 50D can out-resolve the lens... But it does have a slightly higher pixel denser than the MkII so.......)
ETA: It does have the advantage of being dirt cheap... :)

Cory- thanks. I think I agree with you with you, the 28/135 doesn't seem like it would compatible with the 5D res. And it just so happens, I bought the 28/300. It's in my car right now, the left side of my car is sagging cause the silly thing weighs a ton! I haven't had the time to really shoot with it yet, but I just can't see myself toting that monster around! |

Would he be a genius, or a fool? ;-)
FWIW, my walk-around on the original 5D is the 24-70. I think the 24-105 would be great for the added range and reduced size/weight, but I'd really feel the pinch in low light, so I'll stick with the 24-70. I would not give up image quality and/or aperture for greater reach. Personal opinion, of course.

I don't own the 24/70 and I know it's also a great lens matched to the FF body. I am feeling the same way about quality outweighing my wish for more reach. I have to tell ya though, I also just bought the Leica V-LUX3, (just to have a really light camera with me most the time) and that little camera rocks! With careful processing, it is really something. But it still can't come close the a FF sensor for depth and color. I haven't decided if I am keeping the 28/300, I may return it or I may keep it. |

I like the 50mm f1.4
The 28-135 is crap IMO. I had one and found it to be slow and soft with my 10D, I sold it. I can't imagine being on a 5D mkII would make it better. |
