I have some credits to burn at Lomography.com. I noticed this:
//microsites.lomography.com/ringflash/
I'd like to attach it to my Holga. I've never used a ringflash; I understand it's less direct and harsh than the regular on-camera flash (i.e. softer shadows) and, also, that I can get closer to my subject with it. This one is sixty dollars. Does it seem like a worthwhile investment? A decent enough first ringflash? I'd like to use it with both human subjects and perhaps outdoor macros in poor light. Thoughts? |

It's hard to be sure, but it looks to me like the four flash heads are the only light sources, unless you use a "diffusion ring" in conjunction with the flash. If that's so, it won't give the same look as a true ring flash. If some of the flash energy is directed back at the ring, it might perform somewhat better. Hard to predict, really.

Meant to respond. Thanks, kirbic. Just looking for something to play around with. I know it's not pro quality (is anything from Lomography?). I might take a chance... |
